MANSUS x AMGTA Mini-Series Episode 1 Sherri Monroe, AMGTA
The manufacturing industry is changing rapidly, responding to challenges like rising costs, environmental concerns, and shifting supply chains. Manufacturing leaders are under more pressure than ever to find solutions that fit the complexity of their business challenges. Additive manufacturing (AM) is at the forefront of this transformation, offering innovative ways to design, produce, and deliver products. MANSUS, in collaboration with the Additive Manufacturer Green Trade Association (AMGTA), is excited to launch a video series showcasing how AM is shaping a more environmentally and commercially sustainable future for manufacturing.
Stories from Formnext 2024
Formnext is the world’s largest trade show for AM, where industry leaders gather annually to share ideas and innovations. This year, MANSUS and AMGTA teamed up to spotlight the sustainable solutions being developed by AMGTA members. Through a nine-part video series, we’re bringing these conversations to life and sharing them with a wider audience.
Sherri Monroe, AMGTA’s Executive Director, explains the vision behind the series in episode 1: “It's not enough to have people in this hall [at Formnext], talking about additive manufacturing… it's really important to be able to share this information with the companies that are looking for solutions.” AMGTA describes itself as the only global organization bringing together companies throughout the manufacturing ecosystem to promote and elevate the conversation around additive practices. You can find out more about their work from the conversation we had with Sherri for an episode of Agents of Change.
Expert Insights from MANSUS
At MANSUS, we understand the AM industry and the challenges it faces as it matures and continues to gain industrial adoption. Jim Woodcock is Head of Content for MANSUS and Co-founder of Virtual Hero Media. He has spent over 15 years in the field, Jim has worked as a journalist, event organizer, moderator, and consultant. His expertise helps us tell meaningful stories that highlight the impact of AM on sustainability and business growth.
Jim tells us “MANSUS exists to connect manufacturers with the tools, stories, and strategies they need to tackle sustainability challenges. By focusing on commercial and environmental sustainability across the US and Europe, we empower leaders to take informed action”.
Why Additive Manufacturing Matters
Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, creates parts layer by layer, offering unmatched design freedom and efficiency. Unlike traditional manufacturing methods, AM reduces waste and allows for localized, on-demand production. This flexibility means companies can produce parts “when, where, and how they need them,” as Sherri Monroe highlights.
From medical implants to aerospace components, AM enables the creation of complex designs that were once impossible. It also helps companies reduce overproduction and streamline supply chains, supporting both environmental and economic goals.
Making Manufacturing Sustainable and Resilient
One of the biggest advantages of AM is its potential to align sustainability with economic resilience. By cutting material waste, minimizing energy use, and producing parts closer to where they’re needed, AM can reduce the environmental footprint of manufacturing. It also helps businesses navigate supply chain disruptions by enabling on-demand production.
“This technology needs to start telling stories and educating a wider manufacturing audience that sits outside of the AM bubble, that is part of our mission at MANSUS, to develop an audience of manufacturing leaders looking for solutions to their environmental and commercial sustainability problems.” says Jim Woodcock.
Sharing Stories, Driving Change
This nine-part video series isn’t just about showcasing technology—it’s about connecting innovators with manufacturers who are looking for solutions. By sharing real-world examples and best practices, MANSUS and AMGTA hope to inspire more companies to explore the benefits of AM.
“We’re here with MANSUS to really help tell the stories of the benefits of AM and bring them to a much wider audience,” Sherri says. “It’s important to share these insights with companies that are looking for solutions. They want to know how to do things better.”
